Are curved tapers meant to be warn?

but the hooks..
I know tapers aren't meant to..
Jewelry like Talons, Claws, Spirals, Pinchers and other "hanging styles" are meant to be worn.
They are NOT meant for stretching a piercing up to a new size. This is because they are often not evenly sized over their lengths or sized consistantly along enough of a wearing surface to seat your whole piercing. Healed ears can tolerate these variations easily. Freshly stretched ears are not always so flexible.
Another concern is that most items like these are made of organic materials or acrylics. Neither of these categories are ideal for healing piercings safely. Organic materials can harbor bacteria, irritate fresh stretchings, and the sizing on organic jewelry is almost always listed as "may vary up to one millimeter". One millimeter is a fair bit when you are trying to stretch a fraction of an inch, and some manufacturers allow even more variance than that. Acrylic also traps moisture and breeds bacteria as well as some sources report that it can release toxins into tissues. Acrylics are recommended only for healed piercings and only for short wearing times by many reputable piercers.
So fancier dangly jewelry is for wearing and is not the best tool for stretching.
