Pearl jewelry caring tips by Jennifer Ho

Pearls are one of the most attractive and precious pieces of jewelry around, which is why you should always take care of them well, and clean them regularly. Keeping your pearls clean, and ensuring that they are in the best condition, will prolong their lifespan and keep them glowing and radiant. These following tips are just some of the ways you can take care of your pearl jewelry.

The simplest and most basic thing you can do to ensure your pearl jewelry is kept shiny and in the best condition possible, is to clean them constantly and consistently. It is widely recommended that you use a damp cloth that has been soaked in warm soapy water, to clean your pearl jewelry. You should do this after wearing your pearl jewelry out for dinner, or a couple of hours, as dirt from the air and your surroundings can be built up in your pearl jewelry.

Due to the fact that pearls are organic by nature, it is of utmost importance that you keep them far away from any type of chemicals. At times, the body lotions and cosmetics that one might be using can effectively harm the luster of a pearl, which is why you should always wear your pearls after applying whatever lotions or cosmetics necessary. You should also try as best as possible, to ensure that no build up of chemicals occur between the pearls, as it can harm their brilliance severely.

Once you are done with your pearls, or if you intend to keep them for a long period of time, you should try as best possible, to keep them in a silk or leather pouch. You should never keep them in any sort of plastic or air tight container, as it can cause the pearl to become dull over time.

Another precaution you need to take is to prevent storing your pearl jewelry with any other object. This is because peals can get scratched very easily, which is why you should always store your pearl jewelry away from any other objects, such as rings, necklaces or other jewelry.

Being exposed to high temperatures can also severely affect your pearl jewelry, as they tend to dull and tarnish when exposed to heat over a period of time. It is also recommended that you keep your pearls far away from any electrical appliance, in order to prevent any sort of heat build up from affecting the condition of your pearls.

You can also consider sending your pearl jewelry for restringing once a year, or once in two years. Over time, especially with consistent wearing, the cords holding your pearls together tend to weaken, which is why you need to take your pearl jewelry to an experienced jeweler who can advise you on the best time to send your jewelry for restringing.

With these few points in mind, you should be able to keep your pearls in a satisfactory condition, giving you pearl jewelry that lasts a lifetime.

I bought a necklace at tj maxx it said on tag its fresh water pearls.I kind of didnt beleive they would sell?

this for only 50 bucks i bought them and after i got home i took my finger nail to one pearl and a thin clear layer came off but the color stayed these are dyed since they are lime green ,gray and blue . Could someone tell me if its possible these are real or what ? Like i said on the tag it states fresh water pearls .If these are real how do i take care of them ????

if you paid fifty bucks and they said freshwater, then they're real. freshwater pearls are a lot less expensive than saltwater. do not wash them with anything other than mild soap and warm water.
